I have lived in Sandwich for nine years. I am a retired solicitor, having set up a practice in Central London specialising in commercial and corporate law. I have also worked in banking and in the oil and gas industry. Since retiring I have become a published author and journalist writing on maritime and yachting history. Two of my books are currently being translated into Spanish and Italian. I have been a life-long sailor.
I am a trustee of the recently re-opened Jubilee Centre in south Sandwich, a trustee of the Sandwich Heritage Harbour Trust and a director of the Sandwich Pantry, providing low-cost food to those in need. For three years I was a Commissioner on the Sandwich Port & Haven Commission, and I am very keen to see an improvement in facilities on the Quay for visitors and river users alike. I was largely responsible for the nomination of Sandwich as a national Heritage Harbour, in recognition of the town’s important maritime heritage. I was elected to the Town Council in February 2022.
I want to see the Council becoming more open, transparent, and accountable in all its dealings, making a real effort to develop tourism in the town and last, but not least, to be at the forefront at a local level in tackling problems associated with climate change.
