Cllr Ian Black
Ward: South Party: Independent
I am very pleased to have been elected as an Independent councillor sponsored by Sandwich Matters in the 2023 elections. Thank you to all who voted for me.
I stood because I felt that the South Ward has been neglected by the Town Council for too long, because I saw petty Political Party issues dominating the business of the Council, and councillors not doing what they were elected to do – that is, to promote the best interests of local taxpayers, and the community.
I am chairing the Working Group on Standing Orders….the procedures by which the Council and its members should work: all 5 of us on that group believe we must, and can, radically improve this council. I am also a member of the Heritage and Townscape committee because I am a strong supporter of the Visitor offering presented by Sandwich (I am also a Town Guide), and believe we need a proper balance between preserving our heritage while also making Sandwich a good place for residents to work and enjoy.
I will try to be a strong voice for the South ward on planning issues, and seeking to improve facilities and services for the ward.
